Using Datama Spreadsheet as a Power BI extension gives you spreadsheet and pivot-table capabilities directly in your report canvas.

1. Overview

This document explains how to use Datama Spreadsheet in Power BI marketplace context.

The extension is configured using three pivot areas:

  • Rows
  • Columns
  • Values

2. Main features

  • Spreadsheet formatting and cell operations
  • Formulas and built-in functions
  • Filters and sorting
  • Pivot table configuration and drill-down
  • Clean result mode for dashboard viewers

3. Add the extension into your report

To install Datama Spreadsheet in Power BI:

  1. Download the Datama Spreadsheet visual package from your Datama account.
  2. In Power BI, click the ellipsis (...) in the visualizations pane.
  3. Select Import a visual from a file.
  4. Import the Datama Spreadsheet package.
  5. Add the visual to your report and map your fields.

4. Getting started

Suggested usage flow:

  1. Assign categories to Rows.
  2. Assign categories to Columns.
  3. Assign numeric metrics to Values.
  4. Configure formatting and formulas.
  5. Save settings: your customized settings and your licence key are now automatically saved inside the Power BI report — there is no longer any need to copy‑paste the JSON into the “Config JSON” field. If you want to migrate settings between visuals or export them, you can still click the Save button in the top‑right corner of the widget to copy the current JSON to your clipboard, then paste it into the “Config JSON” field of the target visual.
  6. [Optional] Exit edit mode for result-only display in the Format Visual > Datama Settings > Edit Mode (only avalaible for licenced users)
  7. [Optional] Publish your workbook to viewers (only avalaible for licenced users)

Result mode removes toolbar and grid lines for cleaner reading.
